“John Stubbings, left, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., receives congratulations from Fred Johnson, lower right, and other past winners of the ‘Papa’ Ernest Hemingway Look-Alike Contest after Stubbings won the 2004 competition late Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Sloppy Joe’s Bar in Key West, Fla. It took eight years for Stubbings to finally win. He beat 135 other look-alikes for the coveted title. (AP Photo/Florida Keys News Bureau, Andy Newman)”
I wanna grow up to look like Papa Hemingway someday. My grandpa kinda looks like him. My grandpa has the same stark white hair, cut in the same manner, and his beard is trimmed the same. But my grandpa is a more grizziled looking Hemingway. Kinda like if Hemingway got knocked around a bit. My grandpa only has one eye. My grandpa’s face is weathered, his hands are scarred from pinching them in fan belts, and his nuckles are calloused from slipped wrenches. My grandpa would probably look more like Hemingway if he would have sat around in bars, hunted elephants, fished, and other “manly” things instead of doing physical labor while working for a living. Hmmmm….
I wanna grow up to look like my grandpa someday.
